Online Dementia Counselling Services Pilot Project
Alzheimer's Australia Vic's counsellors are professionally trained to provide a range of individual support, advice and practical assistance. People who can benefit from dementia counselling include people in the early stages of dementia, carers of people with dementia, family such as spouses and adult children, friends and other significant people.
Dementia counselling can assist by:
- Gaining an understanding of the impact of dementia
- Identifying strategies for coping and living with dementia
- Planning how to care in the future when the dementia changes
- Dealing with feelings of stress and a mixture of emotions
- Helping to deal with dementia issues within families
Online dementia counselling is being offered for a trial period as part of a counselling project. This project is investigating different ways of providing counselling. The counselling is provided via text in real time – that is, after you type a counsellor responds. All you need to do is register and then an appointment time will be made for the session to occur. The session is very private and only you and the counsellor have access to what you are discussing. You may print out your discussion for future reference and reflection. There is no charge for this service.
The project will run from 19 July, 2010 to 22 October, 2010. Register online for counselling now!

Making Memories
The image on this page (above right), called ‘Simpkin House’ by Corina Reid in Victoria, is a quilting block from Alzheimer’s Australia Making Memories Patchwork Quilt. We unveiled the quilt, built collaboratively by people from all over Australia, in July 2009 to raise awareness of dementia and to celebrate precious memories. The image also features on the front cover of our Annual Report for 2008-09.
